The traffic underneath has thinned out

I keep the cold you left here

Pull my jacket from the chair

The hallway smells like morning coffee

From somebody downstairs

A delivery truck is backing in

A shop light flickers on

I catch myself still listening

For footsteps that won't come

The door closes softly behind me

I hear the lock fall into place

Downstairs, someone drags a crate

Across the pavement by the gate

Now there's a bare horizon
