This is a pre-release single from the newly recorded Ghibli song cover compilation "Café Après-midi Meets Studio Ghibli," featuring 12 super-talented artists and themed around "afternoon coffee-like happiness," supervised and curated by Toru Hashimoto (SUBURBIA), with artwork by Jiro Fujita (FJD) and mastering by Calm!

Tetsuro Yafune, whose latest album "Free Soul" was also a great success and who enjoys the deep trust of music lovers of various genres as both a singer-songwriter and jazz pianist, covers "Asagohan no Uta" (Breakfast Song), an insert song from Goro Miyazaki's 2011 film "From Up on Poppy Hill," composed by Hiroko Taniyama and sung by Aoi Teshima.

This charming jazz number, which was used so effectively in the film, is brilliantly recreated in an upbeat four-beat jazz arrangement. The "Yafune Tetsuro Trio"-bassist Katsuhito Suzuki, drummer Ryusuke Kakizawa, and pianist & vocalist Tetsuro Yafune-performs with perfect harmony and wonderful vocals, making it a delightful piece that will bring a smile to your face. A wonderful cover of a hidden gem among Ghibli songs, rich in jazz influences.

  • Tetsuro Yafune

    As a singer-songwriter and jazz pianist, he continues to work in many fields, from providing songs to singers to producing idols, based on authentic jazz. In 2019, he participated as a pianist in Yasuharu Konishi's solo project, PIZZICATO ONE. In November 2023, the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Yafune Tetsuro Trio with Katsuhito Suzuki (bass) and Ryusuke Kakizawa (drums), he will release his eighth solo album, "Yafune Tetsuro Sings Bellissima," produced by Yasuharu Konishi.
