I believe summer in Japan is remembered more through sound than through sight.
The gentle chime of a wind bell.
The chorus of cicadas.
The distant drums of Bon Odori.
Fireworks echoing across the night sky.
Each sound quietly tells us that summer has arrived.
The lively morning glory market.
A breeze moving through a yukata.
A bowl of shaved ice.
The banner of chilled noodles.
The familiar scent of mosquito coils.
Even now, these ordinary moments carry me back to summers long ago.
"Natsu ga Naru" is a song that gathers the sounds and colors of a Japanese summer.
Every summer returns, yet every summer is a little different.
That is why I want to treasure this one too.
Whenever the wind bell rings,
whenever the cicadas begin to sing,
