In 1984, at the age of 22, I was living a dark and twisted youth. I quit my band, which was actively performing live in Tokyo, and devoted myself to songwriting and music production, but I didn't receive favorable reviews. I was told that I was "lacking energy" and that my music lacked variety. I was also told that "you won't be recognized by the public unless your songs have more punch." At times like these, I asked myself, what makes a song punchy?
In 2025, I titled the works from this period "Cassette Gadget" and put them on the digital music charts. The three more subdued tracks received more views than the more punchy tracks. So I decided to compile these three tracks --a brooding instrumental, a sentimental monolog, and a hopeless torch song--into a compact album. I'm releasing this in the hopes that it will reach lonely souls all over the world.
