「Gold Beyond the Green」は、島根県安来市にある足立美術館の日本庭園を舞台にした曲です。
苔も、松も、楓も、遠くの丘も、まだ一面の緑。白砂を風が渡り、石に光が落ち、池の水面には静かに色が揺れています。苔と石のにおい、松葉のあいだを抜ける風、少しずつ乾きはじめる草のにおい。秋の色はまだどこにもありません。
それでも、風はほんの少し冷たくなり、季節が動き始めていることを知らせます。
「Gold Beyond the Green」とは、緑の向こうにある金色の季節、まだ訪れていない秋の色のこと。
この曲が描いているのは、紅葉した庭ではなく、その少し前の時間です。目に映るものはまだすべて緑のまま。それでも、その緑の向こうには、やがて来る色がある。
まだ見えないものを、風や光、においの中に探すように。
静かに移り変わっていく季節の気配を描いた一曲です。
