KOTODAMA - Learn Japanese by Song, Vol. 2

An album where every word and grammar point from "Minna no Nihongo II" (Lessons 26 through 50) becomes a lyric. The small world Aki and Tsumugi built in Volume 1 opens wide here.

Twelve songs spanning Lessons 26 through 50. Aki returns to the real Japan as an exchange student - but Tsumugi is gone. Knowing only her name, remembering only her voice, he walks the streets. He survives a night of earthquake, and an evening at a station where she never comes. Then, in Track 11, he understands: she lives inside every word he speaks. No kanji is used anywhere - each song is built only from the vocabulary taught up to its corresponding lesson.

Passive voice, causative voice, honorific speech, humble speech - the grammatical backbone of Japanese unfolds alongside the story. In Track 12, facing a new learner, Aki introduces himself in humble form: "Hajimemashite. Aki to moshimasu." The "watashi wa Aki desu" of Lesson 1 returns here, now wrapped in formal speech.
