London-born, Tokyo-based producer SKYTOPIA has teamed up with singer-songwriter Miduki Shinoda for his new single "Concretopia". An anthemic afrobeat-driven pop song, "Concretopia" evokes a sense of longing for the scenery Tokyo has lost due to the pressures of capitalism and urban development. It deals with the emotions running through this ever-changing city, incorporating influences from Wednesday Campanella, starRo, Mark Redito, and the Tokyo-based electronic label TREKKIE TRAX. The music video, released simultaneously, focuses on a council housing complex in suburban Tokyo: a relic of the Showa era and a symbol of the emotional friction caused by time's irreversible flow. "Concretopia" is being released in the same week the 2020 Olympic Games - the catalyst for modern redevelopment in Tokyo - were originally supposed to begin, and as the dynamics of the city have altered once again (this time due to the coronavirus pandemic).
London-born and Tokyo-based, SKYTOPIA is a versatile sound producer and DJ, known for his dynamic and catchy tunes that blend house, electro, UK garage, soul/R&B, and Latin music. His collaborations and remixes span a range of artists, including Sincere, Mogami Moga, DÉ DÉ MOUSE, okkaaa, Frasco, Genick, hamma, Emi Satellite, TAAR, and ANIMAL HACK. He has hosted events across various Tokyo venues alongside his solo releases, showcasing his multifaceted talent and deep involvement in the Tokyo club scene. *In case of an appearance, I plan to deliver a live set performance rather than a simple DJ set.
