ONIBI

This enchanting and beautiful Japanese New Age album was created as the soundtrack for the art exhibition "Wa no Akari x Hyakudan Kaidan 2023: Hyakki Yagyō of Vibrant Colors".

It invites you into a unique world of Japanese fantasy, following a cohesive narrative that spans the entire work.

The story begins with "Meito" (Life Lanterns), where the ringing of countless windchimes guides you toward a shrine. Having stepped into a realm unknown to be the entrance to another world, you encounter "Onibi" (Demon Fire), a vibrant world inhabited by spirits and a bewitchingly beautiful ogress. This is followed by "Shikigami" (Deities of the Four Seasons), a scene of profound elegance where spirits of the seasons perform their rituals.


Through the "Kitsunebi" (Fox Fire) segment, depicting a pure white world and the solitude of a fox spirit longing for its parents, the traveler experiences an underwater journey in "Suiyo" (Water Sprite). Guided by carp, you eventually reach "Goyu" (Home Village) and "Tenmei" (Heavenly Resonance), celebrating the return to the warm lights of home and the joy of life.

The soundscape-featuring Katayama's emotive ad-libs and lead vocals paired with a powerful Bulgarian choir-detaches the listener from everyday life and draws them into the depths of Japanese mysticism.
