hwamo to Release Her Second Single "Garnet" on May 2nd
Singer-songwriter hwamo, who continues to push the boundaries of genre in pursuit of her own artistic expression, is set to release her highly anticipated second single, Garnet.
This song is deeply influenced by hwamo's experience at the Inochi no Matsuri ("Festival of Life"), a sacred event held only once every twelve years. Shortly after DUSTY HUSKY's performance, she witnessed the passing of a young life. Confronted with the fragility of existence and the weight of grief, she poured her emotions into this song, crafting it as a prayer so that such sorrow would not be repeated.
Infused with melodies from the ancient Japanese Iroha Uta, Garnet weaves her tranquil vocals with dark, heavy beats, resonating like a flickering light wavering between life and death-gentle, yet unwavering. Through this piece, hwamo channels the Buddhist concept of impermanence (mujōkan), inviting listeners into a deep contemplation of existence.
The beat is produced by vvind, a beatmaker from Osaka, with mixing and mastering by Tokyo-based 8ronix. Recording took place at Oto no Niwa Studio, located within the precincts of Manpuku-ji Temple in Osaka.
