Lyric

In a fret

Davis Bark

Rain keep on falling

I don't need a light

Cuz I stay in my bed and sing it now lonely

The road has gone too far

But I still keep walking back to where you are

How sharp, How sweet

Endless cycle

Based in Tokyo, the mixture band Davis Bark presents their 1st EP, GLI1CH L0VE.

This concept piece challenges the "perfect protocols" of a modern society governed by binary code, defining humanity's essence through the errors and inconsistencies that deviate from them: the "glitch."

The six-track collection collides the violent textures of Industrial Rock, the ethereal drift of PBR&B, and the wall of noise found in Shoegaze, all anchored by the aesthetic of "Dirty Elegance."

From "Homunculus," a struggle against the vanity of ideals, to the dance amidst the debris of the information age in "Romp"; the blurring boundaries of reality and dreams in "Jest"; the sanctuary of a secluded room in "Darn!!"; and finally, the concluding ballad "In a fret," which affirms and embraces one's own deficiencies.

This is a soundtrack for moving forward while remaining imperfect dedicated to all those whose lives do not run smooth.

When the end credits roll, you will find yourself beginning to love your own "noise."

Tracklist & Commentary
1. GLI1CH L0VE
Inorganic synthesizers intertwine with destructive distortion beats. Built on a Trap beat format, the industrial texture sonically replicates the collapse of digital code.

2. Homunculus
The contrast between serene piano and ferocious guitar work constructs a dramatic arc.
Complex chord progressions and emotionally raw vocals dynamically express the friction between ideal and reality.

3. Romp
Defined by solid guitar riffs and a sinuous bassline.
While maintaining a danceable groove, the tight drumming echoing the intellectual coldness of the lyrics creates a defiant, post-punk sense of momentum.

4. Jest
Layers upon layers of guitars evoke the "ambiguity of boundaries," like a morning mist.
By deliberately dissolving a catchy, J-Pop-inspired melodic line into a wall of noise, the track achieves a dreamlike sense of suspension.

5. Darn!!
Sprightly strings and a low-slung, tight rhythm section form a comfortable groove.
An urban track designed for "swimming through the night," updating the sophisticated chord work of 90s R&B with modern production.

6. In a fret
A delicate introduction builds toward a thick orchestration as emotions erupt.
The rhythm and noise, intensifying toward the finale, symbolize the spiritual "friction" inherent in the journey toward self-acceptance.

Artist Profile

  • Davis Bark

Davis Bark is an alternative rock band that deconstructs the sophisticated pleasure principle inherent in Black music lineages, R&B, Soul, and Jazz through the lens of Hip hops street aggression and MPC sampling aesthetics, reconstructing them into the massive sonic landscapes of Shoegaze and Math Rock. Their sound pairs rigid MPC beats with gut shaking trap and drill influenced sub bass. Amidst the walls of noise, jazzy melodies, soulful vocals, and incisive rhyming intersect seamlessly. The lyrics, which vividly dissect the absurdities of a surveillance society and modern day vanities, harbor a dual nature of cold objectivity and boiling impatience. Yet, at the core of these sharp words and sonic roars lies a trembling, raw human warmth. By coexisting in a space of both sophistication and destruction, silence and chaos, their music invalidates existing genre frameworks. Under their central theme of loving the superficial, their live performances transcend the act of playing instruments, offering an overwhelming sense of embrace as if being held in a powerful, massive hug of love.
