The Scale's Riddle is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays a woman quietly measuring the small changes in her lover, unable to bring herself to confirm whether his warmth has cooled.

In a loose-leaf tea shop in Sancha at dusk, a brass weight clicks onto the balance pan, tea leaves are weighed by the gram, a reply comes a beat too late, a glance grows short. The pans overshoot and drift back and never settle at the center, creating a restless scene where doubt swings between certainty and reserve.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the emotional distance of an adult who reads the change before it is spoken yet refuses to go and ask, knowing that to voice the question would make her the one who leans, the one who wants.

Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and city pop, the track reimagines that era twilight lyricism, the arcade at dusk, the weighted balance, the paper-wrapped tea, through a modern sensibility.

She takes the balanced tea, lets the wrapped parcel fall to the bottom of her bag, and steps into the dusk-lit alley without ever setting the question onto the pan. It is a song about protecting your own center of gravity by choosing not to confirm.

A music project that reimagines the melancholic mood and nighttime glow of late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese City Pop and New Music through AI-assisted production and human direction. Akemi is a fictional singer with a backstory of being from Yamato City, Kanagawa, Japan. She sings of urban solitude, grown-up love, and bittersweet afterglow in a noir-tinged city pop sound. Lyrics, composition, vocals, and visuals are created using generative tools and curated through editing.
