Born from the co-writing camp of Music Lane Festival Okinawa, the international showcase festival based in Okinawa, Trans Asia Resonance is a collaboration project bringing together outstanding artists from across Asia and Japanese creators.
For its third release, Fish in a Bowl by Thai indie band JUJI is presented in both Japanese and English versions.
JUJI, whose name is derived from the Japanese word for "10 o'clock", is an indie band based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Blending dreamy synth-pop with subtle jazz influences, the band has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting new acts in Thailand's alternative music scene. In just over a year since forming, JUJI has captivated audiences with their emotionally rich songwriting and sophisticated musicality.
The title Fish in a Bowl was inspired by the idea of "stepping outside the goldfish bowl" - a metaphor for breaking out of familiar surroundings and embracing new challenges. The theme closely reflects the band's own journey, traveling from Thailand to Okinawa in search of new creative experiences and opportunities.
The Japanese version incorporates phrases in English and Thai, creating a unique cross-cultural expression. Floating dreamlike melodies, jazz-inspired textures, and a groove-driven band sound come together to create a listening experience that feels difficult to place within any single country's musical tradition.
The result is a truly distinctive piece of Asian pop music, born from collaboration, curiosity, and the spirit of crossing borders.
