Benz Blue Bass & Kesuno

Kyoto-based masked rapper Blue Bass teams up with producer Kesuno for MIYAGI, a collaborative album scheduled for release in November. Benz is the lead single and the first glimpse into the world they have created together. The official music video is set to premiere on YouTube on September 21.

Blue Bass music was not born in a glamorous studio. His home-built recording space is located in an old house that costs only around ¥40,000 a month a far cry from the polished studios often associated with the music industry.

Kesuno stepped into that space and spent time with Blue Bass, talking, experimenting, and refining their ideas through intense studio sessions. Benz is one of the songs that emerged from that process.

Built around a heavy, bouncing production with an underlying sense of melancholy, the track captures the loneliness and inner conflict of Blue Bass. While childhood friends around him move forward and find their own versions of happiness, he remains behind in the studio, facing the microphone and continuing to chase his own path.

There is no glamour or fantasy in his lyrics only the reality of someone struggling to keep going while wondering whether the dream is worth the price.

Benz carries the lingering feeling of summer while speaking directly to anyone who has ever felt left behind, lost, or alone in pursuit of something they cannot give up on.
