Formed just a few months ago, GIRLFRIENDZ returns with a new remix of their second single "D.M.I.S." by Okinawa-based DJ/producer EijiHarrison.
GIRLFRIENDZ is a band that reinterprets pop music through the lens of "guilty pleasure." After releasing their debut single "Tonight" in January 2026, the band has been actively performing, including their first live show in Okinawa, a self-produced monthly event in Tokyo, and a tour in Sendai.
The original version of "D.M.I.S." gained attention for its emotional vocals and vivid, cinematic sound design. Produced by Spain-born producer Miguel, whose background in game music informs his work, the track features dynamic, scene-like song structures and vibrant sonic textures.
The remix was created by Okinawa-based DJ/producer EijiHarrison. Produced just about a month after the original release, this version introduces a dancefloor-driven groove inspired by UK club culture, reimagining the track into a club-ready sound while preserving the fragile and unstable atmosphere of the original.
EijiHarrison has worked with artists both in Japan and internationally, including collaborations and productions with fellow Okinawan artist TOSH, and has supported numerous acts at festivals such as Fuji Rock Festival and various international events. In this remix, he once again brings his club music sensibility, bridging the delicate nature of indie pop with the euphoric energy of the dancefloor.
The original title "D.M.I.S." comes from the phrase "Don't Make It Serious," which is repeatedly heard in the song. The remix title "Not So Serious" playfully carries on that idea, subtly inheriting the song's sense of irony and humor.
GIRLFRIENDZ is a Tokyo-based indie pop band formed in December 2025. The project began when Miguel, known for his work on Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain, a Spain-born game sound creator. With Miguel's background in game sound design, the music moves fluidly between indie textures and mainstream, anthemic pop. Their songs unfold like short films, carrying a strong sense of narrative and atmosphere. While rooted in a genuine love for what has traditionally been considered cool, GIRLFRIENDZ refuses to settle there - placing a full stop on the familiar and transforming it into new vibes. In January 2026, less than a month after forming, GIRLFRIENDZ released their debut single, Tonight, followed by D.M.I.S in February and D.M.I.S. (Not So Serious Remix) by Eiji Harrison in March. Since then, they've continued releasing music every month. With their distinctive blend of DIY spirit, pop accessibility, and cinematic sensibility, GIRLFRIENDZ are quickly emerging as one of the most exciting new bands to watch.
