I performed "Warattari Korondari," the theme song of the NHK morning drama series "Bakebake," using Irish whistles, including the tin whistle and low whistle.
The character Heaven (Lefkada Heaven) in the drama is modeled after Koizumi Yakumo (Lafcadio Hearn), a Meiji-era writer born on the Greek island of Lefkada. Having moved to Ireland in his childhood, he also has deep connections to Irish culture.
Hearn's collections of ghost stories and folkloric writings have had a lasting influence on Japanese popular culture.
Songs by Humbert Humbert are well known as anime ending themes, including in "KonoSuba." This piece, in particular, reminds us that no matter how grand the dreams we once held, we ultimately return to the ordinary rhythms of everyday life, and in doing so, rediscover what truly matters.
