Who

Chouchou

    Chouchou

A collection of Japanese children's songs and art songs reimagined by Chouchou.
This album features eight main tracks: "Akatombo," "Shabondama," "Karatachi no Hana," "Kagome Kagome," "Kono Michi," "Momiji," "Who," an original song newly written for this album, and "Yuyake Koyake," along with the bonus track "Momiji (feat. Emilie)," sung by Juliet and arabesque's daughter.
A companion instrumental album, presenting the eight main tracks as standalone instrumental pieces, will also be released at the same time.
The songs collected in this album are melodies that have long been sung and cherished in Japan.

For many Japanese listeners, they are deeply connected to childhood memories, seasonal landscapes, and familiar scenes from everyday life. For listeners outside Japan, they offer a gentle doorway into the language, melodies, and quiet imagery of Japanese song.
Chouchou reimagines these simple and timeless melodies through its signature sense of transparency and quiet fantasy.
While preserving the original beauty of the songs, arabesque's distinctive harmonic language and delicate arrangements bring new resonance and emotional depth to melodies that have long been loved.

Juliet's unadorned, gentle voice adds a further sense of purity and clarity to the album.
The result is a collection of songs that feels both nostalgic and newly illuminated - as if a quiet light from Chouchou's present world were shining into distant memories.
The cover artwork was also created by Juliet herself.
Beginning as a handmade chigiri-e collage made from torn pieces of Japanese washi paper and seashells, the work was photographed and then carefully refined through digital finishing, blending the warmth of handcraft with Chouchou's delicate digital sensibility.

The seventh track, "Who," is an original song written by arabesque especially for this album.
Taking a free approach inspired by the spirit of Japanese art songs, it was created from the emotions and everyday moments that arise while watching children gradually grow, and while sharing that time together.
While retaining Chouchou's characteristic stillness and lyricism, "Who" also carries a slightly different quality from the group's previous works - restrained, deliberate, and grounded in a firm compositional foundation.
The album closes with "Momiji (feat. Emilie)" as a bonus track.
By bringing the voice of the next generation into a song that has itself been passed down through generations, the theme of the album is gently and warmly brought full circle.

Calm yet deeply resonant, this album evokes childhood landscapes, the air of evening, the scent of the seasons, and memories that quietly return without warning.
Rooted in the Japanese idea of "genfukei" - the remembered landscapes and emotional scenery that live quietly within us - it is an album that reaches beyond language and borders, softly touching the memories and feelings of each listener.
