Singer/rapper mezz is set to release her new single "Die a little bit," following closely on the heels of her recent LA collaboration "LAVISH," produced with LA-based beatmakers Taydex and AO beats.
The track marks a long-awaited reunion with producer dubby bunny, who has been deeply involved in many of mezz's key works, including her debut song "Gyal Drill," which gained attention for its fusion of J-pop and UK Drill, as well as fan favorites such as "ROYAL MILK TEA" and "99 Baby."
Built around a gliding UK Drill bassline, the song incorporates mellow chord progressions inspired by Liquid Funk-a style that has gained renewed attention in recent years through artists like PinkPantheress. Over this distinctive production, mezz delivers a bittersweet vocal performance that recalls the melodic sensibility of early 2000s J-pop.
Despite its driving and powerful beat, the lyrics portray the quiet pain of emotions slowly wearing away with each goodbye, expressed from a tender, feminine perspective. This contrast between sonic force and emotional vulnerability adds depth to the track, highlighting mezz's ability to balance intensity with intimacy.
rapper / singer based in Tokyo. In 2022, she made her debut with "Gyal Drill," a reinterpretation of a beat based on UK drill, mixed with singing and rapping.
