SOMAOTA, MC of the hip hop collective Black petrol, is set to release a new single, Footprints, in collaboration with electronic and UK garage producer Funny Factures.

SOMAOTA has performed at major festivals and events in Japan and overseas as a member of Black petrol, including SUMMER SONIC 2023, FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2024, STRAWBERRY MUSIC FESTIVAL in China, Bangkok Music City 2026 in Thailand, and LaLaLa Festival 2026 in Indonesia. As a solo artist, he has also appeared at festivals and events including Neon Oasis Fest. 24 in Taiwan and Yui no Oto 2025.

Footprints features rapper TERU, born and raised in Hirakata, Osaka, and Taiwanese R&B singer Malpaca.

TERU first discovered hip hop through HRKT Cypher in his hometown of Hirakata and quickly immersed himself in rap, particularly freestyle. He went on to gain recognition through appearances at BAZOOKA!!! High School Rap Championship and Gaisen MC Battle. He has released four albums to date, competed in the UMB 2022 GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP as Osaka's representative, and sold out his own one man shows. In 2025, he launched his own label, BTD, and continues to work across recorded music, live performance, and MC battles.

Malpaca is a Taiwanese R&B singer known for her soft, expressive vocals. She previously collaborated with SOMAOTA on a track from her album released in September 2025, and was also selected for the Golden Melody Awards, one of the most prestigious music awards in Taiwan.

On Footprints, three artists from different places and backgrounds reflect on the paths that have shaped them, with the idea of footprints at the heart of the song.

SOMAOTA looks back on his roots in Miyamaedaira, Kanagawa. TERU draws from his upbringing in Hirakata, Osaka, while Malpaca reflects on the journey she has taken throughout her life and career. Each artist brings a different perspective on the past, the present, and what lies ahead.

Their individual stories converge over Funny Factures' electronic production, bringing together three distinct voices and perspectives. From the places they came from to the paths they continue to forge, Footprints captures where they have been while looking toward where they are going next.
