SOMAOTA, the MC of the hip-hop collective Black petrol from western Japan, known for their recent performances at major festivals like SUMMER SONIC 2023, FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '24, and China's biggest music event, STRAWBERRY MUSIC FESTIVAL, has released a new single titled "Alter Ego feat. Sorane", in collaboration with electro/underground producer Funny Factures.

SOMAOTA and Sorane have been close friends for seven years, connecting through cyphers and live shows since their late teens. This marks their first musical collaboration in four years, since "Black petrol - Street Gig feat. Sorane." The track is a nostalgic tribute to memorable clubs and live venues like CIRCUS OSAKA, Kyoto METRO, and Namba Hatch, making it a truly personal and commemorative work.

The song was born during a casual dinner with several fellow rappers, when a mutual friend asked, "Why don't SOMA and Sorane make a song together?" Coincidentally, on that very day, Funny Factures had sent over a beat, which the two listened to together - and the song came together from there.

    He is the MC of the HipHop collective Black petrol, which has performed at SUMMER SONIC 2023 and FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'24, and as a solo artist has performed at numerous festivals in Taiwan, including Neon Oasis Fest.24 and Ya nettai Vol. 2 and many other festivals. He has released three EPs and many singles, including his masterpiece Nori Nori Daze. Based on the idea that life and music are inseparable, he incorporates the discomfort and questions he feels in his daily life into his music. After 7 years in the west area, he moved to Tokyo in 2024 to pursue his music career in earnest, and successfully held his first solo concert SOMAOTA ONE-MAN SHOW Trans on November 29, 2024.

  • Funny Factures

    Electronic music project by drummer/trackmaker Koji Shibano. He has been playing in various bands as a drummer for many years, and has performed live not only in Japan but also in New York, China, Taiwan, and many other foreign countries. He also worked as a support drummer for The fin.. He has also collaborated with The fin., BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON, Wuinguin, and guitarist Kazuya Takenouchi. In June 2024, he released his latest EP, Keep Life, a danceable work composed of the fast-paced beats of UK Garage and UK Drill.
