This track is included on Gota Nishidera (NONA REEVES)'s "Human," a "humane" cover album that tackles the deep city pop (aka pop songs/new music) of the '80s and '90s.
"Woman from 'W no Higeki'" was a 1984 smash hit by Hiroko Yakushimaru. This cover, by a collaboration that's arguably one of the most notable in Japanese pop music history, features lyrics by Takashi Matsumoto and music by Karuho Kureta (Yumi Matsutoya). Gota Nishidera's cover features piano by Yudai Ohi, who also serves as producer, and Megumi Mashiro of Hicksville, resulting in a refined acoustic performance honed in a private setting.
Ken Tomita captures the mysterious, floating feeling and tension of the original with an immersive mix, resulting in a masterpiece cover. Keyboardist/pianist Yudai Ohi handled piano, arrangement, and production. As a member of the now-hiatus jazz hip-hop band SANABAGUN., he met Gota Nishidera, who produced the band, and they began working together as musical partners, writing songs together. He has been active in numerous projects and live performances with artists both in Japan and overseas, including Newjeans, Hikaru Utada, Kenshi Yonezu, Number_i, and Aina the End. In addition to producing two tracks on the album "Human," he also participated in half of the tracks, resulting in a superb cover featuring his beautiful, flowing piano.
He debuted in 1997 as the singer and main songwriter of NONA REEVES. Since then, he has worked as a music producer, lyricist and composer for many artists and projects, including Shonentai, SMAP, V6, YUKI, Yasuyuki Okamura, A.B.C-Z and Airi Suzuki. Outside of the band, he is also active as a writer, MC and runs his own YouTube channel, Nishidera Gota Channel (NGC).
