This is the 4th album of Sandii's Hawaii series that has been released since 1996.
This album, released in 2007, is a collection of hula songs featuring Sandii's hula teacher, Pattye Kealohalani Wright. Sandii, Pattye and her husband, Rusty worked on this album over a three-year period, recording it with a simple arrangement of ukulele, steel guitar, by musician and Hawaiian music researcher Yuki Alani Yamauchi, who has participated since the first album in the series, and autoharp by Rusty as well. Pattye Kealohalani Wright also sings in the chorus, giving the song her deep voice.
Sandii's emotional voice can be heard in this wonderful work. This is a great introductory Hula instructional CD featuring Kumu Hula from Hawaii and Japan together!
Sandii lived in Hawaii during her late teens and most of her 20s. In that period, she sang in clubs and studied hula with Aunty Bella Richards of Kailua. She also met and bonded with Pattye Kealohalani Wright, who later became a Kumu Hula through Aunty Lani Kalama (1990). Sandii has the various, many different musical phases of her recording career. She has recorded as Sandi Ai, Sandy Hohn, Sandii & the Sunsetz, and now as Sandii. Since 1996, her albums have been Hawaiian or Polynesian-theme.
