I, Piano Improvisation Poet, Hiroshi Kawase, was 22 years old when I composed this piece. My first trip abroad, a walk on the Isle de la Cité in the Seine River in Paris, and a refreshing morning were the memories that I had while being aware of the wonderful music of Francis Lai. I decided on the Japanese title "Morning at Saint-Germain-des-Prés" after the location of the hotel where I stayed at that time, and then decided on the French title "Melancholy Young Daughter," which has a completely different meaning, as is often the case with French music in Japan.
For the first time, we have released a performance as a duo, Belivière, with Miki on keyboard harmonica and myself on piano, and on the day we heard the news of Mr. Francis Lai's death in November 2018, we both tearfully performed together in Kagurazaka, Tokyo in his memory, as well as many Francis Lai works for quite some time. We have been performing as a belivière for quite some time. This recording was an impromptu public recording at the Sun Heart Music Hall in Futamatagawa, Yokohama on 8/25/2024, and the performance must have brought the scenery of Paris to mind. A video of that performance is also available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/FzCnMpn-oYQ
