Among the various kinds of music, I have always written songs with the desire to express music that has elements such as "story", "color", "poetry" and "scenery". I started composing at the age of 16, and after nearly 10 years, the word "short story singing" came to mind. I thought, "What if I could make my songs into a "short story collection" like the great short story collections of Shusaku Endo, Haruki Murakami, and Yukio Mishima? No, I thought that this is music, so it should be a "short story singing". From that simple idea, I planned and created the one-man live "Short Story Singing 'Shounen'" recorded in this album.
Express the "story", "color", "poetry" and "scenery" that each song has through music. To do this, I gathered a group of reliable friends, including piano, violin, drums, bass and guitar.
When it came to creating the sound, I conveyed very abstract images to each musician, such as "a piano with a melancholy feel like a boy with morning blues" and "a drum with a dynamic feel like a little old man having fun at a carnival". However, my friends who helped me this time helped me find the "sound" behind my words. It was a really fun time creating sounds, scenery, and stories with such friends.
Also, the prologue poem that was read before each song. I was also very particular about the poetry reading. I wrote and spoke out loud, without embellishment, in honest words, about the world that welled up from within me.
2The curtain was raised on "Shounen" at a live house called SACT in Shinjuku. I hope that the world expressed there will remain in the corner of the hearts of those who listen, and become an opportunity to look at reality or a place to escape from reality. I expressed it with that thought in mind.
This album is a record of 13 stories that were particularly memorable from the many stories played at the live show. Or perhaps this album itself can be said to be one big story called "Shounen".
Please listen to it. Listen to each song as if you were turning the pages of an album. I think you will feel like you are traveling to various worlds.
