TRICK OR TRIP: A New World Order Shaped by Unpredictable Music
On October 10, 2026, Kotobuki Hane releases her 11th album, X Day's Night.
Built around psychedelic approaches and cyber-inspired sounds, the album moves freely through French pop, dance music, and idol pop as if floating in zero gravity. Retro and futuristic elements, classic pop and experimentation intersect to create a six-track new world that could only be imagined by Kotobuki Hane.
In August, her 10th album, Magical Mystery Hour, delivered nostalgic yet fresh summer tunes. In September, her 5th cover album, UTABOSHI, featured 15 legendary Japanese idol songs. After an intensely creative summer, Kotobuki Hane returns with her 11th original album.
"Radical Crash Ensemble" opens the album with scale and adventure. Its music video hints at its role as a counterpart to "Magical Parade Scramble," released in January, bringing its festive energy into a new and unpredictable direction.
"Dreamy Future Doll" combines the cute French pop sensibility reminiscent of France Gall with a science fiction atmosphere and futuristic sound. Antique and modern, delicate and cybernetic, opposite elements become a single pop song.
"YOU SHINE IN MY LIFE" is an orthodox celebration song with a characteristically cynical edge from Kotobuki Hane. It is a TRICK OR TREAT kind of song.
"Another Bluesy Chapter" wears a jazz-inspired atmosphere before transforming into light and lively dance music, quietly betraying the scenery suggested by its title.
The second half features two idol pop covers: "Anata Boshi" by MilkyWay and Pink Lady's "UFO."
Just one month after UTABOSHI, Hane casually places these two covers alongside her original material. Yet both reveal an even stronger sense of her own musical identity. This unexpected range speaks to the depth of Kotobuki Hane as an artist.
"Anata Boshi" preserves the idol identity and individuality of the original while giving it a distinctly Hane-like treatment.
"UFO" stands out as a powerful track. Rather than simply reviving the classic, Hane reconstructs its overwhelming pop appeal through her own voice and contemporary production, transforming it into pop music that feels alive today. It is one of the album's major highlights.
Another key element of X Day's Night is Kotobuki Hane's enduring respect for The Beatles.
Just as Magical Mystery Hour evokes Magical Mystery Tour, her 11th original album takes its title from The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night. The artwork continues her tradition of paying homage to iconic Beatles imagery, combining sincere admiration with a playful spirit.
This is more than an affection for 1960s pop culture. As The Beatles expanded the possibilities of popular music and eventually moved into psychedelic and experimental territory, Kotobuki Hane continues to step beyond the established boundaries of pop.
Her 11th original album, and her 11th answer to The Beatles.
It is not simply a parody, but a playful reflection of the musical journey that brought Kotobuki Hane here, and of her desire to keep moving forward.
Just how much music can Kotobuki Hane make her own?
The fastest way to find out is not to read this summary, but to listen to these six tracks.
Nostalgic yet new. Cute yet psychedelic. Somewhere within the cyber world, distant memories begin to surface.
Six unpredictable pieces of music intersect in X Day's Night.
What will happen on that X DAY?
Listen and find out for yourself.
