TAMTAM, a four-member group from Tokyo that has garnered attention from music listeners not only in Japan but around the world as a reggae/dub band, has received global acclaim with releases from overseas labels, promotion on BBC and NTS Radio, and inclusion in Bandcamp and Mr. Bongo's year-end best lists. Their Ghibli song cover is "No Woman, No Cry," a Bob Marley masterpiece originally sung by Tina and featured in the 2002 short film "Ghiblies episode 2" directed by Yoshiyuki Momose.
Throughout the entire piece, a dreamlike soundscape is created using dub processing, and the comforting sound of steelpan and that beloved melody from around the world soar through it. This beautiful illusion blends with a heavy bass and drum rhythm, resulting in a breathtaking sound production that evokes a dazzling sense of exhilaration. Among the many covers of this song, this is a truly unique masterpiece.
A four-piece band based in Tokyo. They started out as a reggae/dub band, but gradually developed into a musical style that blended the influences of various genres such as jazz, soul, psychedelic pop, new age, and exotica. In 2024, they released the EP "Ramble In The Rainbow" overseas from Peoples Potential Unlimited (PPU), a label in Washington, D.C., USA. Immediately after the release, it was introduced on Gilles Peterson's BBC Radio 6 Music and NTS Radio programs, and the following week it appeared on the cover of Bandcamp Weekly and was featured in a special feature on their work, attracting attention. Since then, it has been played by radio and DJs in various countries, and at the end of the year it was selected as the best work of the year in multiple places, including Bandcamp and Mr. Bongo. In Japan, it was selected as "Future Of Music 2024" by Rolling Stone Japan, and it caused a stir all over the country. In addition to performing at domestic festivals such as Fuji Rock, in recent years they have expanded their activities overseas to Canada, Korea, Australia, etc. In May 2025, they will release their full album "Where They Dwell". The new EP "Ramble In The Rainbow"(2024) is their first international release on the US label PPU(People's Potential Unlimited).
