ABOUT THE SONG

Most of the work is waiting.

Not the moment of action - the hours before it. The screen keeps moving and
you don't. You know you shouldn't move, and your hand moves anyway.

"Yamabiko Shot" is about those few minutes.

The verses hold almost completely still. The narrator talks himself down:
don't panic, don't chase, don't run. Breath held, waiting at the bottom of
the valley for a signal that may not come.

When it finally sounds, the chorus opens - brass and stacked vocals arriving
all at once. What breaks the silence isn't impatience. It's the certainty of
someone who waited it out.

ON THE TITLE

"Yamabiko" is a mountain echo. It only answers if you call first, and what
comes back sounds like your own voice with something else folded into it.

The second verse is about the people you never meet: strangers watching the
same screen at the same hour, in different rooms, in different countries.
One person's judgment turns into doubt. Tonight, it doesn't have to.

WHAT IT HANDS YOU

The final verse is the point of the whole song:

"I won't promise you a win.
I'll just hand you the stance.
Keep your doubt - you can keep it.
You'll still know where to fire."

The weight of those four lines is in the second half.

Nothing here is certain, and anything claiming certainty is already lying.
So the song makes no promise about the outcome. What it hands you instead is
a place to stand - and it hands that over without hedging.

The doubt never goes away. It isn't supposed to. This song never tells you to
be stronger than you are. It tells you that you can stay exactly as uncertain
as you already are, and still know where to fire.
