A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Ryuta Abiru has done studio work and backing for many famous artists. Pianist Ryuta Abiru is one of the central figures in the Latin scene in Japan.
He is one of the key figures in the Latin scene in Japan, having supported the Latin soul singer "Joe Bataan" during his performances in Japan.
The members include Ludwig Nunez, former drummer of Bamboleo. Saxophonist Gustavo Anaurate hails from Recife, Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, and has played with such stars as Paula Lima, Sibuca, Elba Hamarillo, Geraldo Azevedo, Lenini, and Manciqueira. Hideki Sato, a talented percussionist who has played in Japan's top Latin bands such as Orquesta del Sol and Grupo Cebele, as well as in the backup band for Cuba's Omarla Portuondo's Japan tour. Minoru Kitahara is a bassist who has supported Joe Bataan on his tours in Japan, and has been a member of Latin bands such as Chikaboom, Habatampa, and Pedro & Capricious.
All of the songs on this album are originals. This album is a fusion of jazz and Cuban Latin music, with unique compositions and powerful performances.
The recording was made live at Motion Blue Yokohama this year (2011). The album was recorded live at Motion Blue Yokohama this year (2011). By using a one-shot live recording instead of a studio recording, the exciting groove and dynamism unique to Latin music and the lyrical melodies unique to jazz music were captured in their entirety. This is a result of the talented musicians on this recording.
This is a work that should be of interest not only to Latin fans and jazz fans, but also to fans of groove-based club music.

Artist Profile

  • Ryuta Abiru

    Born in 1971, Ryuta started playing the piano as a child. He attended high school in Japan at a school run in association with Tokyo Music University. There he became an avid fan of Jazz. After high school he entered Berkley College of Music in Boston U.S.A, and received training from Herb Pomeloy, Cecil Mcbee, Jeff Covell, along with other great teachers and musicians. After graduation he returned to Japan and has been active full-time in concerts, supporting Izumi Yukimura and other singers, and studio recording work. During his career he has played with Toshio Miki (sax),Yoshiro Okazaki (trumpet), Shungo Sawada (guitar), and others. He has also performed in Las Vegas and Miami, co-starring with a player of traditional Japanese music. In addition, he has recorded with several artists including Suguru Miyaji (Weather Eyes ,Future Swing) and with Mihoko Hazama (HeartStrings). Shiokawa Kouji(Shikari) He is presently devoting most of his time and energy to Latin Music and Latin piano, studying with Sergio Norona of Paulit FG, Groupo Niche and Alche Lang of Afro Cuban All Starsin Havana (Cuba). In 2002 Ryuta formed his own Latin music band called "Banda de Planeta" Released first CD <Cabaret nacional> in 2004 . Also Released CD of his own piano trio (+1) in August 2005. It called "A circle of nature" He also plays activity with the Suguru Miyaji Group, Chieko Tsutumi Group, Shuntarou Harada Group,, Kouji Shiokawa Group, Banda obaoba(Brazilian music) , Sabrosura Del Sonido(Cuban salsa)and other ensembles. Besides performing, Ryuta teaches private lessons, making good use of his experience and training from Jeff Covell, a musician who performsin the direct line of influence from Charlie Banacos who is highly renown in Japanese music circles.
