Like a comet, she became a car one month has already passed.
Zetsuko Todoroki, an artist/idol based in Tokyo and currently enrolled in the graduate program at Tokyo University of the Arts, now launches a fully self-produced solo project.
The debut single "Car Wannabe"is a track deeply intertwined with Todoroki's core concepts of "car / speed / city."
The lyrics, written by Todoroki herself, unfold from an innocent yet fetishistic perspective: a girl who becomes a car to carry the person she loves.
The music is composed and arranged by Noritsugu Takahashi, a key figure of the city pop band Jinsei Kaiki and an emerging talent in the contemporary music scene.
Rooted in the lineage of city pop while incorporating the texture of synthwave, the track is constructed as "drive pop."
A mid-tempo, laid-back groove carries layers of synth bass, pads, and light electronic drums. Neither rock nor idol pop, the sound is designed with car audio playback in mind-vividly evoking urban landscapes of highways, streetlights, and gas stations.
Currently enrolled in the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts, she is active as a member of the idol groups SAKA-SAMA and Wakusei Tsushinsha. In addition to her idol activities, she performs noise live sets and interactive music using Max. Her practice expands the conventional image of idols, developing a unique expression that traverses music, the body, and urban space.
