Met Jamie on a Tuesday night, said he hates the apps
But he knew my star sign and my hometown map
Chloe’s on her third “soft launch,” swears this one’s deep
Posts “we’re private” stories, still checks who sees
I swipe like I’m bored, but I’m actually scared
Laughing at bios like I’m not looking there
Say it’s just a phase, say it’s not that deep
But I feel it in my chest when I can’t sleep
Everybody’s lonely, dressed as fine
Calling it timing, calling it design
I’m not dramatic, I’m just online
Falling in love at the wrong time
Everybody’s healed, according to them
Still scared of love, still scrolling at ten
Say “you’re perfect”, don’t press send
Romanticising the almost again
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up
Alex wants “casual,” which is never casual
Emily says marriage is “kind of irrational”
Two people got married from a Hinge last spring
We all double tap the photo of the diamond ring
My phone knows me better than most of my friends
It knows when I’m lonely, knows when it ends
I joke about feelings like it’s all pretend
But I spiral quietly after 10
Everybody’s lonely, dressed as fine
Calling it timing, calling it design
I’m not dramatic, I’m just online
Falling in love at the wrong time
Everybody’s healed, according to them
Still scared of love, still scrolling at ten
Say “you’re perfect”, don’t press send
Romanticising the almost again
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up
I don’t know if it’s the apps or me
But it messes with my sanity
Being wanted, then suddenly none
Makes you question if you’re real or fun
I say I’m fine, but I miss the thrill
Of falling for someone without the skills
Everybody’s lonely, dressed as fine
Calling it timing, calling it design
I’m not dramatic, I’m just online
Falling in love at the wrong time
Everybody’s healed, according to them
Still scared of love, still scrolling at ten
Say “you’re perfect”, don’t press send
Romanticising the almost again
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up
Almost, almost
Almost enough
Almost, almost
Fucked it up

Romanticising The Almost
GIRLFRIENDZ
E
Formed in December 2025, GIRLFRIENDZ quickly built momentum with the release of their debut single "Tonight" in January 2026, followed by their second single "D.M.I.S." in February. After the recent release of a remix, "D.M.I.S. (Not So Serious Remix)," they return with their third original single, "Romanticising The Almost."
While their first release "Tonight" evoked The Cardigans and "D.M.I.S" leaned into an anthemic, dance-driven sound, "Romanticising The Almost" channels a breezy pop-rock energy reminiscent of Haim. A lively yet minimal bassline, crisp guitar arrangements, and infectious vocal harmonies define the track. Catchy and danceable as ever, the song places a stronger emphasis on the band's raw ensemble sound than their previous releases.
The theme centers on modern love in the era of online dating.
Wanting something casual, yet double-tapping a photo of a diamond ring. Typing "you're perfect" but hesitating to press send. Romanticising "the future that could have happened," over and over again. GIRLFRIENDZ capture that quiet emptiness and self-aware frustration with a disarming shrug - "almost, almost... fucked it up."
Rather than judging or glorifying these contradictions, the band observes them from a distance. This detached yet empathetic perspective has been consistent since their debut single "Tonight," which subtly questioned the idea of "healthy living." The songwriting and production, led by Spanish sound creator Miguel, once again showcase his signature balance of irony and emotional nuance.
The artwork is inspired by a dating app profile screen. Next to tags like "Sauna" and "Korean Food," vocalist Mayu is seen lying down, covering her face - as if reacting to yet another "here we go again" moment. On a screen that reads "Looking for Casual," she might be the most serious one there.
Both the artwork and the Okinawa tour VLOG-style music video were created DIY by bassist, Ido Kyo. The contrast between the song's ironic theme and the carefree, pop-toned visuals adds another compelling layer to the project.
Artist Profile
GIRLFRIENDZ
GIRLFRIENDZ is a Tokyo-based indie pop band formed in December 2025. The project began when Miguel, known for his work on Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain, a Spain-born game sound creator. With Miguel's background in game sound design, the music moves fluidly between indie textures and mainstream, anthemic pop. Their songs unfold like short films, carrying a strong sense of narrative and atmosphere. While rooted in a genuine love for what has traditionally been considered cool, GIRLFRIENDZ refuses to settle there - placing a full stop on the familiar and transforming it into new vibes. In January 2026, less than a month after forming, GIRLFRIENDZ released their debut single, Tonight, followed by D.M.I.S in February and D.M.I.S. (Not So Serious Remix) by Eiji Harrison in March. Since then, they've continued releasing music every month. With their distinctive blend of DIY spirit, pop accessibility, and cinematic sensibility, GIRLFRIENDZ are quickly emerging as one of the most exciting new bands to watch.
