  • Massimo La Rosa

    Massimo La Rosa is currently Principal Trombone of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He previously held the same position with the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice for twelve years, where he made his solo debut performing the Italian premiere of Launy Grondahl's Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. Later, he served as Principal Trombone of the prestigious Cleveland Orchestra, appearing as soloist in concertos by Nino Rota and Ferdinand David under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda and Franz Welser-Most. He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, the United States, South America, and across Asia. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. Alongside his orchestral and solo activities, La Rosa is deeply dedicated to teaching, giving masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, the San Francisco Conservatory, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Tokyo University, and many others across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. His orchestral and chamber discography is extensive, but highlights include his two acclaimed solo albums Cantando (2010) and Sempre Espressivo (2013), as well as the recent project Dear Friends with Yasuhito Sugiyama (tuba) and Tomoko Sawano (piano). Massimo La Rosa is also deeply engaged in philanthropy, having donated over USD25,000 to organizations such as UNICEF and the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. Recently, he donated the proceeds from two of his solo performances to SPIA Onlus - he Sicilian Association for Primary Immunodeficiencies. The Pediatric Oncohematology Department of Palermo serves as the regional reference center for the diagnosis and treatment of Primary Immunodeficiencies, a group of serious and rare diseases.

  • Tomoko Sawano

    Born in Tokyo in 1969, Tomoko began playing the piano at the age of three. She studied at the Tokyo College of Music High School and Tokyo College of Music under Katsuko Miura and Kazune Shimizu, winning Third Prize in the Special Grade of the PTNA Piano Competition in 1992. In 1993 Tomoko moved to Germany to study at the University of the Arts, Berlin under Prof.Rainer Becker. In 1995, during her studies in Germany, she was awarded a Diplom at the International Music Competition Maria Canals of Barcelona. Since high school Tomoko has been dedicated to ensemble performance. She places importance not just acting as an accompanist, but on serving as an essential partner during performances. With flexibility and a resolute musical sense she possesses great ensemble abilities that allow her to become one with her co-performers. She is highly regarded for her ability to draw out the musicianship of her collaborators. As a result she receives offers from musicians all over the world for CD recordings, concert tours, and recitals. Additionally, Tomoko has served as an official pianist at competitions and workshops across the globe, including the International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen (Germany), ARD International Music Competition (Germany), Philip Jones International Competition (France), International Trombone Festival (Denmark), Pacific Music Festival (Sapporo), Mondoñedo Workshop (Spain), and TubaMania International Festival (Thailand). She has won many best pianist awards at these events. From 1998 Tomoko has served as brass and wind répétiteur at both the University of the Arts, Berlin and the Franz Liszt college of Music, Weimar. She receives extremely high praise for her work in these schools and many of her students have won prizes at international competitions. Tomoko currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
