Music collective Albem releases its second album "continue?".
At the same time, they started distributing free of charge the executable file "continue.exe", which is a game version of the album's concept.
The album is based on a dark club sound derived from post-dubstep, and many elements such as R&B, dub, ambient, nu-metal, drum'n'bass, and J-POP run through the album like a running light. The second half of the album, interspersed with interludes, brings a sudden change in atmosphere, with breathtaking silence (track 5: come find me.), flooding nostalgia (track 6: i_miss_u), and an avalanche of music that builds to a climax.
The theme of this album is "resilience". Although it has become a generalized business term, it is a psychological term, and it originally meant physical resilience.
Since the COVID-19 pamdemic, information space, society, and the world have been divided into a dualism of 0s and 1s. This ambience is also reflected in music. However, by showing the "resilience of music" by elastically transforming the music itself into various genres and forms, can we not question the resilience of society itself, which is always already imbued in the music? Can we catch a glimpse of the flexibility that the world should have? This ambitious work was born from such questions.
The album release will be accompanied by the release of "continue.exe", an interactive visualization of the concept. The game will be distributed free of charge.
A playlist of songs referenced in the production will also be available on Spotify.
Albem is a musical collective consisting of nozakimugai (vo, sound engineer), Shuhei Miyazaki (gt, sampler), Tomonori Sato (ba, synth), and Shigeru Furusawa (drums, programming). They create conceptual electronic music that crosses contexts such as post-modern philosophy, internet memes, and science fiction. The individual members are also involved in cross-border activities such as producing film accompaniment, participating in hip-hop crews, researching the architecture of music implementation, software engineering, and labor. Most recently, the single "Waters," released in September 2022, stirred up elements of vaporwave, hip-hop, film music, shoegaze, etc., with its divisive musicality. The album "continue?" is scheduled for release in December 2023. Analyzing the mood of society after the Corona Shock, they are working on the theme of "the body dancing in the void".
