PLASTICS was a Japanese technopop band formed in 1976.
Active during the dawn of Japan's technopop movement, the band also attracted international attention, releasing records through UK labels such as Rough Trade and Island Records, sharing the stage with acts including The B-52's, the Ramones, and Talking Heads, and embarking on three world tours.
Their song "COPY" was released in the UK in 1979 and in Japan in 1980. The band disbanded in December 1981.
Long before the internet existed, PLASTICS were broadcasting their cutting-edge Tokyo sensibility to the world.
"COPY," the PLASTICS track now covered by evichill, is an iconic anthem of Japanese technopop. More than 40 years ago, the song took a satirical look at a world dominated by stereotypes, while acknowledging that the band themselves were part of that very world.
Now, evichill brings her own 2026 interpretation to "COPY," a pioneering track that helped lay the foundations of Japanese technopop.
Born from evichill's love for timeless electronic sounds, her respect for ever-evolving digital music technology, and her deep connection with the song's lyrical themes, her version of "COPY" reimagines this technopop classic for a new generation.
More than four decades later, "COPY" is reborn as a fresh, playful pop cover, unmistakably evichill.
