Formed in Tokyo by members of HOTEL MEXICO and vocalist Yuco, tiger bae is a synth-pop band that made its debut in 2022 with the mini-album Calm Like This Love. The music video for "Deeply," featuring actress Amami Tomite, has surpassed 80,000 views. Remixes by Bark Bark Disco and JOON, both affiliated with Jonny Jewel's label ITALIANS DO IT BETTER, also drew attention.
In March 2025, the band performed at SXSW 2025 in Austin, Texas, appearing in multiple official showcases including KEXP's Eastern Echoes and Italians Do It Better x Indie Sleaze, hosted by radio station KEXP. In July, they released the new single Quarter to Five, which had been performed live at SXSW to great acclaim. The track has since won listeners not only in Japan but also across the U.S., Mexico, the U.K., and beyond.
Their latest song "Coasting" is a collaboration with Ibuki Aran, a member of the Paraguayan band El Culto Casero, who has gained attention through performances at Lollapalooza Argentina 2024 and SXSW 2025. Inspired by their encounter at SXSW 2025, the track combines breezy, upbeat band arrangements and a sense of airy weightlessness with Yuco's silky, wistful vocals-resulting in their most pop-leaning take on indie dream-pop to date.
