Hitomi Nishiyama's long-awaited latest piano trio work is the fruit of her career to date.
The newly formed trio with Toru Nishijima (bass) and Ryo Noritake (drums) includes nine new original compositions.
Hitomi Nishiyama began her career with a devotion to European jazz, and has since garnered support from jazz fans for her beautiful melodies and harmonies and her exceptional compositional sense.
Through her work with NHORHM, a project that arranges and performs heavy metal music as a jazz piano trio, she has combined her sincere experience of the structure and power of heavy metal music with her main piano trio activities, and the songs on this album create a highly tense sound that encompasses unprecedented turbidity and fluctuation. On five of the nine tracks, Takanori Suzuki (clarinet), maiko (violin) and Ryosuke Hashizume (tenor saxophone, flute) join the piano trio in the background, making the piano trio more three-dimensional, deepening the shadows, sometimes like a pointillism, sometimes like the ebb and flow of the tide, depicting a scene. The piano is a Fazioli, and its tones are rich in flavour and warmth.
