Lyric

Shiroi Satetsu 2020 A Pure Mistake

Kei Daikouji

Shiroi Satetsu 2020, A Song Carrying Memories Across Forty Years

Many years ago, during my high school days, we created a forty-minute school drama using an 8mm film camera. The story and acting were far from perfect, but we formed a band and performed the music ourselves. It was a fully handmade production, crafted with youthful passion.

The classmate who played the role of a student who dies in an accident was a true star of our school. He was the ace of the American football team, a talented musician, cheerful, and well-liked by everyone. When the film was shown, some of the female students were moved to tears. I remember standing shoulder to shoulder with him, sharing a quiet laugh as we watched their reactions.

But only one month later, he tragically lost his life in a real accident. His girlfriend was with him at the time.

More than forty years have passed since then. The instrumental theme we had composed for that film was later given lyrics and reborn as a song, sung with heartfelt emotion by singer-songwriter Kei Daikoji. That song is Shiroi Satetsu 2020.

Someday we will meet again. I believe we surely will.
That hope still echoes within me.

After the song was completed, it became the theme for a documentary that included footage from that time, allowing us to pass on our memories and feelings to the younger students who followed in our footsteps.
