  HIDA ONKYO HA is an improvisational unit formed in 2022. Based in the mountains of Hida Takayama, Japan, they continue to explore completely unprepared improvisation, learning from the voices of the natural world around them. Using effects to radically process voice, guitar, self-built instruments, electronics, and more, they create spacious, psychedelic soundscapes that have been described in various ways: According to one gyaru: "the sound of outer space and yokai playing together." According to one rapper: "a phenomenon." According to one DJ: "I could listen to this for five hours." According to one writer: "it brought back my childhood." They composed the music for Sugu ni Yuku. (2024), a film directed by Toshiaki Toyoda. In 2025, they released their third album, Sugu ni Yuku. ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK, on cassette. In 2026, they released Onmyaku Kyomyaku on 0on, a cassette documenting an improvised performance with Nobuyasu Maeda of Kodo. They also continue to release live recordings as part of their ongoing "Color to Color" series: 2024 - Blue to Green 2025 - Green to Pink 2026 - Pink to Cyan Mastered by kabamix.
