Artist Profile

  • Calm

From an early age, he grew up listening to the non-commercialised music selection on 'NHK-FM'. It was during this period that his songwriting and DJ music selection, which was not influenced by genres or trends, was formed. After playing in an omnivorous dance-rock band, he awoke to the freedom of using sequencers and began his solo career. He made his debut in 1997 with the Calm EP. Since then, he has consistently released singles and albums. Currently active in promoting sunset chill-out as well as the dance music scene of clubs and festivals.

Mixmaster Morris is an ambient DJ from Brighton, England. After graduating from university, he started his DJ career in 1985 with his own show "Mongolian Hip Hop Show" on unlicensed radio in London. He was active mainly in clubs in London, and in 1987 he started producing works with singer-songwriter De De Moor as The Irresistible Force, and became one of the leading figures in the UK acid scene. In the 90s, he emerged in the electronic music scene with The Orb and KLF, and released a remix of Cold Cut's hit single Autumn Leaves, which attracted worldwide attention. In the mid-90s, he released a collaboration with Pete Numlook and "Global Chillage" on Rising High Records. In 1998, he released "Quiet Lodge" in collaboration with Haruomi Hosono, which had a major impact on the scene. He has won "Best Chillout DJ" at the Ibiza DJ Awards three times. His collaborative work with Hosono Haruomi, "Quiet Lodge," was re-released on CD and vinyl in April 2024, to the delight of ambient listeners.
