SOMAOTA is the MC of the Japanese HipHop collective "Black petrol", whose appearances at SUMMER SONIC 2023 and FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'24 are still fresh in our minds.
Also, SOMAOTA has performed at "Neon Oasis Fest. 24" in Taiwan as a solo artist.
On August 28 (Wed), SOMAOTA released "Clouds," a single co-written with his share house band DUCK HOUSE.
This is his first release as a solo artist in three months, and the first collaboration with DUCK HOUSE in four months since the EP "Lost Humanity" released in April 2010.
While his previous collaborations with DUCK HOUSE have sent out a positive message, "Clouds" is an introspective song with the theme of "what you lose by continuing to play music".
The song straightforwardly expresses how SOMAOTA, who is now in her late 20s, and Oumi and INUI of DUCK HOUSE struggle daily with the balance between life and music.
He is the MC of the HipHop collective Black petrol, which has performed at SUMMER SONIC 2023 and FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'24, and as a solo artist has performed at numerous festivals in Taiwan, including Neon Oasis Fest.24 and Ya nettai Vol. 2 and many other festivals. He has released three EPs and many singles, including his masterpiece Nori Nori Daze. Based on the idea that life and music are inseparable, he incorporates the discomfort and questions he feels in his daily life into his music. After 7 years in the west area, he moved to Tokyo in 2024 to pursue his music career in earnest, and successfully held his first solo concert SOMAOTA ONE-MAN SHOW Trans on November 29, 2024.
DUCK HOUSE is an alternative band that began in April 2022 as a share house and music project based in Daikokucho, Osaka. The group originally started as a trio consisting of SOMAOTA (MC), Oumi (Pf, Vo), and INUI (Ba). Through a series of self-organized events, the band gradually gained attention and performed at the 2023 edition of the NAKATSUGAWA SOLAR BUDOKAN festival. They have released several singles and, in 2024, unveiled their EP Lost Humanity. In August 2025, the band relocated to Tokyo to pursue its musical activities more seriously. They released the single Visitor in December 2025, followed by their first full-length album, Duck Diary, on June 10, 2026. Around the same time, founding member SOMAOTA departed from the band, and Tsuru-Sho joined as the new drummer, establishing the band current lineup. The band first album, Duck Diary, was created around the theme of life and music. Its title was inspired by the Japanese lifestyle magazine Kurashi no Techo, to which the band pays tribute.
