[Starry Falls] Commentary
When I first heard this song, I was struck by the impression of "a love that will never be fulfilled."
YUKIYOSHI's "Oiran Dochu" further expanded the image. My love for Yoshiwara combined with this allowed me to write it all in one go, which is unusual for me.
The other day, I sang a wonderful song called "Kanaya Tanzen" at an Ogie-bushi gathering. The lyrics were so beautiful and impactful, I paid homage to them.
The original poem was from the Kokinshu by Otomo no Kuronushi, one of the Six Immortal Poets.
"Are tears the spring dawn? Unless there is one who does not regret the falling cherry blossoms."
The protagonist in Kanaya Tanzen is a man, but I continued writing, imagining what it would be like if he were a woman.
It's summer now, but I hope that by incorporating poems from the Kokinshu about the four seasons, I can sense the changing of the seasons and the diverse Japanese onomatopoeia.
