• °pbdb

  °pbdb is a creative unit formed by Misaki Umei and Fuki Kitamura. Since 2023, the two have contributed to each other's music, and °pbdb emerged naturally out of their ongoing collaboration. Freely crossing genres, they handle everything together, including composition, lyrics, performance, vocals, track-making, and mixing. Their process is lab-like: ideas are turned into sound on the spot and developed through trial and error, without settling on a genre in advance. Visual and conceptual work, including the unit name, titles, and artwork, often built around symmetry and letterforms, is also entirely self-produced. In December 2024, °pbdb released qpqd. Its track "qd" was featured in an Apple ad campaign, and the duo were selected as cover artists for Spotify's official playlist "Electropolis." In 2025, Umei's debut album Asleep Above Creatures and Kitamura's debut album Spiraloop were both nominated for the APPLE VINEGAR -Music Award- 2026. Having each built distinctive solo careers, the two now bring their individual artistry together in °pbdb, exploring music freely and joyfully.

  Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 2002, Misaki Umei began playing piano at the age of four, and started playing electone and composing music at the age of six. She has received awards in numerous piano and electone competitions, and graduated from the Composition Department at Tokyo College of Music. She was selected as one of the 25 Japanese artists featured in Rolling Stone Japan's Future of Music. In 2025, she performed at ROOKIE A GO-GO at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2025. In July 2025, she released Asleep Above Creatures, her first album under her solo name. In January 2026, she released the single L a d y, followed by a headline show at Shibuya WWW in April. In addition to her work as an emerging pianist and musician, Umei has been attracting attention as one of the next-generation artists to watch, with a seamless range of activities including haruyoi, her unit with Sakika Kanno, and °pbdb, her unit with Fuki Kitamura.

  Fuki Kitamura released her debut digital single, amaranthus feat. Misaki Umei, in March 2023, followed by an appearance at ROOKIE A GO-GO at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2023 that July. Known for a genre-crossing sound that blends elements of dance music, jazz, folk, electronica, and beyond, she has been gaining attention from a wide range of listeners. In July 2024, she made her second consecutive appearance at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2024. In March 2025, she performed at SXSW 2025, and on November 26, released her first album, Spira1oop. In May 2026, she held her headline show, Don't MIDI Me, at EBISU LIQUIDROOM. Alongside her work as a member of Tomita Lab, Kitamura continues to develop a wide range of projects, including collaborations with Tomggg, the duo °pbdb with Misaki Umei, and DJ activities under the name kuyurimi.
