Do you know about yellowtail?
It's the prefectural fish of Akita Prefecture, and an essential part of the prefecture's winter diet.
But in recent years, something strange has been happening in the seas off the coast of Japan.
Yellowtail are literally plentiful, offered at incredibly low prices, and any surplus was sold for fertilizer.
There are various theories as to why this is happening, including rising sea temperatures and past overfishing.
Will the yellowtail ever return?
I've only eaten a handful of yellowtail this year. I think I've only had yellowtail once.
I want to eat my fill of yellowtail again. And drink some good sake. It's the dream of all Akita residents.
That's why I sing the blues.
With all my love for yellowtail, joy, sorrow, and joy.
Please listen. The Sandfish Man's Blues.
A Japanese singer from the underworld, singing the poetic world of hell and Akita dialect blues. He hails from Junsai Kingdom (formerly Yamamotocho). He began performing solo acoustics in early 2023, and his signature songs include "The River of Dogs," "The Song of Atopic Dermatitis," and "The Wooden Bridge with Turtles." His literary and pessimistic songs, described as "a Tohoku-style emotional genre," have received high praise from all quarters. His other signature style, Akita dialect blues, has also gained popularity, garnering praise such as "I have no idea what he's saying, but it's fun." Following a relapse of his mental illness, he relocated to Akita in 2026 and resumed his activities.
