Inspired by Tsuruya Nanboku IV's Phantom Posthumous Kabuki Kyogen "Shidenokadomatsu Gomanzai" (1829)

Jakko Dainanboku Kadomatsu Go Meido Ichirizuka (1829)

Kabuki Kyogen "Shidenokadomatsu Gomanzai" (1829)
History and Overview of the Play
This play was created in 1829 (the 12th year of the Bunsei era).
This "phantom posthumous work" is said to have been written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV, also known as "Dainanboku," for his own funeral, upon realizing that his impending death was near.
This highly unusual work was not performed as a regular commercial play, but rather distributed to attendees at Nanboku's funeral or performed as entertainment.
