DJ YAS began crafting beats via sampling in the early 1990s, quickly establishing a signature, unparalleled style. He made his official debut in 1995 as the DJ and producer for LAMP EYE (RINO LATINA II, GAMA & DJ YAS). In 1996, he achieved legendary status by producing "Shogen," widely revered as the definitive Japanese hip-hop classic. While making major waves as a member of KAMINARI-KAZOKU and KEMURI PRODUCTIONS, DJ YAS has lent his talents to countless domestic and international projects, building a massive discography of production and remix work. As a solo artist, he has released two full-length albums, Light (2000) and Smoking Gun (2005), as well as Angler Fish, a collaborative mini-album with global icon Tommy Guerrero, followed by various vinyl-only breakbeat releases. While balancing his solo career and occasional LAMP EYE reunions, his legendary underground hip-hop party "TIGHT" (co-hosted with DJ QUIETSTORM) celebrated its milestone 25th anniversary in 2023 with a nationwide tour centered around Tokyo's iconic venue, club asia. The party remains a premier destination for true music lovers, held twice a year (summer and winter) at club asia. Additionally, he holds down regular residencies at prominent underground parties, including BARREL at Aoyama Hachi and PROTOPOP at Shimokitazawa LIVEHAUS.
