Kokoroba

When I was a child, there were often vegetables outside the entrance when I woke up in the morning.

My mother seemed to know who brought them.

Potatoes with the soil still on them, tomatoes with leaves, cucumbers and pumpkins that had grown big, I hardly remember buying vegetables at the supermarket.

I never actually ate tomatoes that my grandmother grew, but the neighborhood grandmothers would come to bring in the laundry, bring the vegetables they had grown, or the wild vegetables they had picked, and it was a wonderful place where we all shared the bounty.

The hands of the working grandmothers and grandfathers were rough and very good. My father was an office worker, so I can't forget that when he saw the rough hands of a hard worker, he would say, "You have good hands."

This song was born from such memories.

Kokoroba is a word from the Heian period and means "heart, spirit."

In the Izumi Shikibu Collection, there is a poem that reads,

"Even if no one knows and it is not in my heart, I gather things together and think about them."

No matter how trivial it may be, find something that resonates with you, cherish it, and live a rich life.
