You could reach out if you wanted to. You could meet up if you tried. And still, all that comes back when you touch the screen are lines of text, never the warmth you were really after. The problem isn't being isolated. It's the distance itself, the sense that warmth is right there within reach, yet never actually handed to you.
What makes it harder is that there's no one to blame. No one was cold to you, no one disliked you. Everyone is perfectly kind, and still you're the only one who keeps failing to connect. Which leaves one conclusion: that you're the one who's out of tune. That thought quietly wears away at the edges of who you are, from the inside.
