Filled with the profound excitement of collaborating with one of the most revered bassists and composers in jazz history, Akira Ishii presents his third leadership album alongside the legendary Steve Swallow.
Recorded in New York in early September 2001-just days before the 9/11 attacks-this album captures a moment of pure, heartfelt dialogue between two masters. The repertoire features three originals written by Ishii during his preparation in New York, three of Swallow's own compositions personally recommended by the bassist himself, and three jazz standards reimagined through their spontaneous interaction.
A particular highlight is "happiness," a track cherished not only by Swallow but also by the late, great Carla Bley. Carrying the weight of the era's shifting history and the transparent beauty of that specific autumn, this album remains a cherished collection of memories for Ishii-a serene yet powerful document of a season that changed the world.
Regarding the digital release of this album:
I have made every effort to contact Mr. Steve Swallow directly; however, I was unable to establish a connection. Nevertheless, in order to preserve this remarkable musical dialogue for the next generation, I have decided to proceed with this release with the utmost respect for him. All applicable publishing and mechanical royalties will be processed and accounted for through the proper channels.
