In 2023, STAP Sigh Boys suddenly emerged at the forefront of Japan's indie scene with their album Chord. Among the standout tracks was "Setouchi Jishaku," a shimmering blend of classic guitar cuts and disco beats, which quickly climbed the J-WAVE HOT 100 and earned a spot on Apple Music's annual "Tokyo Highway" playlist, bringing the band widespread recognition.
Their new single, "You Belong to Disco," set to release on August 6, 2025, is, as the title suggests, SSB's take on the disco classic. With grooves that melt under the glow of a mirror ball and dazzling lights, the track unfolds with dynamic arrangements that keep listeners hooked to the very end. It's a dancefloor-ready anthem built on layers of nostalgia and momentum.
The production and arrangement are both meticulously crafted. The recurring phrase "DISCO" punctuates the track like a strobe light, pushing the groove forward while avoiding mere retro homage. Instead, the song delivers a fresh, forward-thinking sound that feels right at home in the present. It's no surprise that acclaimed producer Koichi Tsutaya named them among his "Artists to Watch in 2025."
Rooted in the layered urban groove that spans from 2000s UK rock to the legacy of YMO, STAP Sigh Boys weave their own sonic universe-fresh, strange, and unmistakably current. "Disco belongs to you." That's the message this track carries into the summer of 2025.
