Long Swimming
Kanchu-Yuei
Kanchu-Yuei is a solo project by creator 1P, centered around the theme of A Blue Light That Stays Close To Pain.
Rather than shaking off coldness or pain, the project moves slowly toward the light while carrying them along.
This quiet yet undeniable will-fragile, but firmly present-runs through the projects name, Kanchu-Yuei (Winter Swimming), and through all of its music.
The first single, Green Ghost / Long Swimming, depicts loss, memory, and the resolve to keep moving forward while bearing them, portrayed from two different emotional distances.
Green Ghost is a metaphysical track built around a cosmic motif, exploring afterimages formed by emotions that once undeniably existed.
Images such as sinking constellations, quanta, exotic matter, smiles seen through glass, and parabolic arcs blur the boundary between memory and reality, between what can be touched and what cannot.
The unnamed you, never spoken of directly, appears without a clear outline-like a ghost-yet emerges vividly from memory as a gaze ahead or a sensation at ones fingertips.
In contrast, Long Swimming is told from a more physical, present-tense perspective.
Scenes of sitting by cold water and throwing stones, or continuing to swim far while pausing for breath, symbolize the will to go on living while carrying unbearable realities and emotions.
Amid dark, heavy landscapes-the smell of an iron town, white slopes, powdery snow, striped signal lights-the phrases I love you and I want to swim beside you are repeated.
These words are not bright confessions, but fragile prayers offered while holding anxiety and loneliness-less an expression of romance, and more a spell whispered to oneself in order to endure.
Sonically, the project draws from Japanese dream pop reminiscent of For Tracy Hyde and Luby Sparks, while subtly incorporating elements of alternative and shoegaze.
Layered guitars and synthesizers create soft reverberations and carefully preserved spaces, emphasizing atmosphere and restraint.
Green Ghost / Long Swimming does not force a message onto the listener.
Instead, it is music that gently reaches out-quietly touching moments of pain that surface when one is alone, or loneliness thought to have been forgotten.
Through these two songs, Kanchu-Yuei portrays the quiet dignity of continuing to swim through the cold, and the certainty that even there, a faint light truly exists.
