Born and raised in Kyoto, Ryoken Murakami is a singer-songwriter who distills the visceral essence of Black music spanning blues, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and reggae into a language and sensibility uniquely his own. With a minimalist style centered on acoustic guitar, Ryoken delivers a sound that vibrates with intense groove and a singular, polished vocal style, instantly drawing listeners into a deeply immersive soundscape. Following a period of itinerant life on the road, traveling city to city by car to perform, he now maintains multiple bases of operation across Japan. His music is sharpened by the cycle of "stillness and motion": the heavy snows and serene summers of nature, the hustle and isolation of human society, and the rhythm of everyday life.
