Farewell, Polaris

Masaki

Farewell, Polaris

1.Masaki
No matter how many days it has been, the memory remains as vivid as day.
No matter how far I've come, the visions reverberate in my skull.
Palms, facing me to express rejection.
Heartless words, piercing me like spears.
Voices without warmth.
I took them for granted.
That had been the world I knew.
I looked upon the stars to seek the one.
The sign, to guide me to a strange but better world, twinkled as if to ask, "Are you smiling as you ought to be?"

I loved pianos. We had a grand piano at home, and my mother was a music teacher. Overjoyed that her son had music in his blood, she attempted to pass on her knowledge as if to implant it by opening his chest with a scalpel and inserting electrodes in his brain. I learned everything about music from my mother except the joy. If I had enjoyed playing the piano on my own instead of asking others to help me learn when I was a child, I could have played this kind of tune by now. Even now, I can only create songs behind my parents' backs when I'm sure they're too far away to bother me. In my mind, which absolutely no one can peek into, I play the old and nostalgic Yamaha grand piano we had back in the day with my index finger, tap, tap, tap. Bright, shiny signs that guide children do not always point them in the right direction. If I could have lived without the guidance of strong influences, in the case of this song "Polaris", what kind of a person would I have become?... I put these thoughts into the melancholic riffs of the piano.
